We spent the weekend at Edmonton at the Rotary Youth Exchange Orientation for Karly.  The weekend prepares Karly (and family!) for her year in Japan which starts this summer.  Also there was Catherine who joined the other “Rebound”, students who are now just back from their Rotary Exchange.  The Rebounds assisted the “outbounds” with preparations for their year.

Karly with Stephanie, an exchange student from Athabasca who will also be off to Japan. Also included include is Mashbat, a Japanese exchange student now in Canada for the school year, in Ft. Nelson, BC.

I was in Toronto last week and did some business and was about to leave.  Then I thought “What the heck, I rarely come here..” So I drove near the Hockey Hall of Fame and walked on over.  It was $15.00 and I was in. I’m not much of a follower of hockey any longer – but like most young boys – I did years ago.  I played and reffed hockey through grade school.  I watched the playoffs with great interest.  So to see this shrine was very cool.  Moving in fact.  The Vezina trophy with all those names on it, the Stanley Cup,  old uniforms.  Very cool.  You know, I could see grown men getting quite emotional in a place like that.   Hard to believe it has been all those years since I played hockey outdoors on the community rinks in Brandon.  Up early, out in the dark, thawing hands and feet..  Weekends we watched the NHL on TV and cheered on the likes of the people in this room.   A fun afternoon.

Thinking of a E Reader book? Run, don’t walk.   

I took mine to New Zealand – I was hiking with Jan in a forest.  We stopped to read.  I read the National Post.  There was a review of a book that looked promising.  With Amazon you can download samples of books, the first few paragraphs – free.  So I found the book on Amazon, downloaded it right there.  Amazing.  In a forest in New Zealand,  reading the days’ newspaper from home, finding a book of interest – owning it 60 seconds later! Today back home I subscribe to the Globe and Mail.   Love to read it on the treadmill.  So by 7 AM I can be exercised, and a good start on the days’ Globe!  Love it!
