We are in Montreal for the annual International Rotary Convention. 20,000 Rotarians from around the world are here in downtown Montreal.
Here, we attend sessions, hear inspiring speakers, and of course have some fun! There are over 20 from Grande Prairie clubs including spouses.
One of the highlights so far was Greg Mortenson, who wrote the book “Three Cups of Tea”.
Greg spoke for around 45 minutes about the need for educating girls in war-torn countries, among many other things. He gave background on his book and how it came about. Very cool.
We have also had some good times with Rotary friends in Montreal. We went for supper in old Montreal, and have done lots of walking and swapping ideas with Rotarians from around the globe. (there are around 200 countries with Rotary, 1.2 million Rotarians). This year we saw a new flag was unveiled from a country that now hosts a Rotary Club for the first time – Palestine!
We also have 6 exchange students in Montreal with us from our Rotary District 5370, including our exchange student Osmar from Switzerland. He is also here for about a week. The students attend a trip to Quebec City overnight, and the Canadian Space Centre, among other fun.
So a fun week in Montreal of sharing notes, inspirational speakers, and loads of fun!
